Karen Healey is the Best!

I decided to email the pictures of the Guardian of the Dead cake to the wonderful author, Karen Healey, as well as our praise of the book! While I hoped that she would enjoy the pictures, her response was more than I could have hoped for! Not only did she send me an email expressing her joy and thanks, she made us these "Cupcakes of Gratitude!" How cute is that??? We are all so happy that we got to share our work with the author of the novel for the first time, and this was perfect for boosting our confidence! :)

Guardian of the Dead Cake!

Guardian of the Dead will not actually be released until April, but my mom got a free advanced copy. I ended loving it so much that I could not wait until April for the book group to read it! The main character and narrator, Ellie, is completely awesome! She is certainly no boring Bella Swan! While the ending was a bit...odd, everyone should read this when it comes out, especially girls! It is funny, exciting, and the type of fantasy you can enjoy without being a fantasy lover.

We decided to base the cake on the magical mask that Ellie discovers. And the random octopus/sea monster thing? Well, you'll have to read the book to find out what that is about!

Pride and Prejudice and Zombie Cake!

I am finally putting these up! It's only been, you know, a few months since they were taken! Here is our epic cake from Pride and Prejudice and Zombies! This takes place during the ball at Netherfield, when zombies break up the festivities to devour the brains of the dancers. The heroic zombie-fighting Bennet sisters take their place in the center of the action, forming their unbeatable Pentagram of Death!

If you are a Jane Austen lover and enjoy dark comedy, definitely read Pride and Prejudice and Zombies!
